Google Fi cuts unlimited data plan pricing, adds high-speed data

Google Fi is slashing prices on two of its unlimited cellular data plans, in addition to adding more high-speed data plans. The Basic Unlimited Data plan has dropped from $60/mo to $50/mo, while the full-featured Unlimited Plus plan is now $65/mo, up from $70/mo previously. This marks the first price cut for the Unlimited Plus and Simply Unlimited plans since their debuts in 2019 and 2021.

The cheaper fee comes with more high-speed data on both plans, the full-featured unlimited plan going from 22GB to 50GB, and the base unlimited plan going from 22GB to 35GB. As noted on the MVNO’s updated plans page, Google Fi says it will begin throttling data after the limits on both plans are exceeded. If you want to use your phone or laptop as a mobile hotspot, Google is adding 5GB of data to its Simply Unlimited plan for a hotspot connection, a feature previously only available in Unlimited Plus.

Both plans now also include unlimited calling within Canada and Mexico. Before the update, only free calls were made to Canada or Mexico, but not when traveling in either country. Google Fi’s pay-as-you-go flexible plan also offers free calls to both countries, with no change to the $20/month price for one line and the $10/GB usage fee.

While both plans offer unlimited talk, text, and data, the basic unlimited plan has some limitations compared to the full-featured unlimited plan, such as a cap on hotspot data usage, the inability to share data on other devices like tablets, and support for There are fewer destinations for free calls, texts, and data.

However, its lower price, along with the added hotspot tandem feature, could make it a more serious contender when it comes to budget unlimited plans. By comparison, Verizon’s Visible plan offers unlimited data for $40/mo per device, Verizon’s basic unlimited plan is $70/mo, AT&T’s most affordable unlimited plan is $65/mo, and T-Mobile’s Essentials Unlimited plans cost $60/month.
