Windows 11 File Manager sets OneDrive as the home page

In Windows 11, Microsoft is consolidating the cloud storage service OneDrive more deeply in File Manager to provide users with greater productivity. In the latest build 22593 previews, OneDrive is no longer just a shortcut or promotion link but has its own “home page” in the file manager.

In Windows 11 22H2, you basically let you configure OneDrive as the default folder in File Explorer. The default folder means that File Explorer will focus on “OneDrive” at startup, not on “Quick Access/Home” or “Native” items. If you want to try this new feature, use these steps.

  • Upgrade to the latest preview of Windows 11 on your test device
  • Open the file manager > file options
  • Select “OneDrive” in “Open File Manager”
  • CLICK OK TO SELECT TO APPLY THE ADJUSTMENT
  • When you’re done, you can launch Explorer and quickly go to the OneDrive folder.

Another OneDrive feature of Windows 11 is a new OneDrive button that appears in the upper right corner of the file manager. As you can see in the screenshot above, the OneDrive button will appear when you use the cloud service and enable syncing. The OneDrive pop-up window displays information related to OneDrive uploads and several options to customize the experience.
