Windows 11 Preview 22598 Fixes and Known Issues Complete

Microsoft today for Dev and Beta channels to push the latest Windows 11 preview 22598. Microsoft says that as with last week, this release includes only a few changes and improvements, but includes a good set of fixes that will improve Insider’s overall experience on its devices.

Microsoft is rolling out a new update to Windows 11 Media Player (version 11.2203.30.0) for Windows Insiders on dev channels.

Generic

  • Devices that use Windows Information Protection (formerly EDP) policies can now access-controlled data through protected applications such as Outlook, Word, Microsoft Edge, and so on.

Taskbar

  • Fixed an issue where if keyboard focus was used on the taskbar, hovering like previews during all taskbar interactions was not possible.
  • Fixed an issue where even if the taskbar badge was turned off in settings, it would recur after the explorer .exe crash.
  • Fixed an issue where some mouse movement events were not passed to the app for icons in the system tray.
  • Fixed an issue where hovering over some app icons in the system tray would not display previews or tooltips.
  • In this version, the app icon in the system tray is displayed more reliably when opened again.
  • Fixed an issue that delayed or prevented the display of hidden icons from popping up.
  • Fixed an issue where Chinese characters would not appear in the taskbar calendar when the lunar calendar was on.
  • Addresses an issue where visual indicators around the app icon may not disappear when you stop sharing a window.

Start menu

  • fixed a crash when selecting the more button in the start recommendations section.
  • addresses a potential issue that could cause a crash at startup when called with gestures.
  • fixed an issue that caused the wrong colors for the buttons and labels in start when using contrast themes.
  • addresses an issue where starting would be unexpectedly closed if you swiped to scroll through the contents of a folder pinned in the start.

  • addresses an issue that caused context menus to sometimes not render completely and become transparent.

[input]

  • improved the performance of launching the touch keyboard on the login screen.

  • fixed an issue where if text was selected with touch in some applications, such as settings, the backspace key on the touch keyboard had to be clicked twice to remove it.

  • IF YOU PRESS WIN+ H REPEATEDLY, THE VOICE INPUT SHOULD NO LONGER STOP RESPONDING.

  • fixed an issue for users with a large number of input methods when the input method switcher was turned on, the currently selected input method might not be in view.

  • Fixed a link at the bottom of the Chinese (Simplified) IME appearance settings to point to the > Personalize > text input.

  • addresses an issue where background images and colors in the emoji panel may not render correctly after using options in the settings > personalization > text input.

[settings]

  • FIX AN ISSUE WHERE THE HIGH DPI OPTION IN THE COMPATIBILITY OPTIONS FOR EXECUTABLE PROPERTIES DOES NOT WORK.

  • narrator can now read the view options that were added in the settings > apps > installed apps.

[window]

  • WHEN WIN+D IS PRESSED OR THE SHOW DESKTOP BUTTON IS CLICKED, THE LOST ANIMATION IS RECOVERED.

  • Addresses an issue that could cause the acrylic panel to get stuck at the top of the window when using a touch Snap snapshot layout.

  • when using a hebrew or arabic display language, the thumbnails in the task view are no longer upside down.

  • fixed an issue where explorer .exe crash when calling task views.

  • if there are many windows open, they are no longer superimposed on the desktop in the task view.

  • Fixed an issue where when using ALT+Tab with screen readers, if you use ALT+Tab to return to some application windows, the focus will be set to one pane in the window instead of the entire window.

  • fixed a potential issue where the accented colored title bar (when enabled) for some applications and file explorer was only displayed when the window was maximized.

  • alleviates a rare issue that can cause the system to hang when changing the resolution in some games.

  • addresses an issue where white pixels appear in corners of some apps when using dark mode.

  • Some work has been done to resolve an issue where windows for some applications do not move to the expected area after using Snap snapshot assist to select them.

  • Fixed a bug where using snap snapshot layout at the top of the screen, snapshot window animations appeared.

[real-time subtitles]

  • fixed an issue where the topmost of the maximized application (such as the window management button of the title bar) could not be touched when the live caption was at the top.

  • live subtitles now tells it when to finish downloading and have subtitles ready.

[task manager]

  • MITIGATED AN ISSUE THAT CAUSED THE CPU GRAPH OF THE PERFORMANCE PAGE TO BE STAINED TO SHOW KERNEL TIME, ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT ENABLED.

  • some work has been done to further improve the reliability of task manager.

  • ADDED ACCESS KEY SUPPORT FOR RUNNING NEW TASKS (ALT +N), END TASKS (ALT+E), EFFICIENCY MODE (ALT+V), AND OTHER BUTTONS PER PAGE. IF YOU PRESS ALT, THE LETTER APPEARS NEXT TO THE BUTTON.

  • After selecting a process, pressing the Delete key now ends the process as before.

  • CTRL+Tab and CTRL+Shift+Tab now cycle through the pages in Task Manager.

  • fixed an issue where the memory composition diagram was blank instead of being archived with the appropriate color.

  • MITIGATED AN ISSUE THAT CAUSED GPU GRAPHS ON PERFORMANCE LABELS NOT TO BE DISPLAYED IN SOME CASES.

  • the icon in the status bar of the process page no longer touches the side of the bar.

  • fixed an issue where “efficiency mode” was missing from the status bar of the user page.

[WSL]

  • FIXED AN ISSUE THAT PREVENTED WSL2 FROM MOUNTING HOST FILE SYSTEMS ON ARM64.

[other]

  • fixed an issue where one acrylic material in previous releases might not extend to the entire login screen.

  • fixed an issue where when using hardware keys, the volume and brightness keys would be cut off in the middle.

  • running powercfg /query now works correctly when starting from a syswow64 or 32-bit process.

  • Fixed an issue where apostrophes in text did not render correctly when scanning offline from a Windows security application.

  • Removed an extra “be” in the text describing smart account control in the Windows Security application.

  • fixed an issue where when upgrading to a new version, some languages could cause question marks to appear in the position of some text.

  • If you increase the text size under Settings > Accessibility > Text Size and start settings from Windows ISO when you start the currently installed operating system, the text displayed in the settings window will now grow to match user preferences.

known issues

[generic]

  • Windows Insiders running Windows 10 who join the Dev or Beta channel to get the latest version may encounter download error code 0xc8000402 when trying to download the latest version. As a workaround, join the Release Preview Channel, install Windows 11 (Build 22000.xxxx) from there, and then switch to the Dev or Beta channel to receive the latest insider preview. Microsoft is aware of this issue and will fix it in an upcoming release.

  • microsoft is investigating reports that some insiders have encountered explorer .exe repeated loop crashes in the latest builds and fail to load successfully. this release includes a mitigation that may help some insiders who encounter this condition.

  • When you open the Group Policy Editor, an Administrative Template error pops up. Click “Ok” to eliminate and continue using the Group Policy Editor normally.

[taskbar]

  • launch an app or tap outside the expanded taskbar on a 2-in-1 device, and the taskbar doesn’t always collapse automatically.

  • some areas of the operating system do not yet track the height of the expanded taskbar on the 2-in-1 device, so you may see overlapping components.

[file explorer]

  • Using context menu options to rename, copy, paste, and delete on File Explorer or the desktop can cause explorer .exe to crash when the context menu is eliminated. If affected, as a workaround, the user will need to use other methods to do the desired action, such as pressing F2 to rename a selected file or folder.

  • when you right-click a file on the home page, the “add to favorites” option does not appear. as a workaround, you can access this option by selecting show more options.

[widget]

  • when you use gestures from the side of the screen, the widget panel may not open successfully. if it’s affected, temporarily tap the widget icon in the taskbar instead.

[network]

  • microsoft is investigating reports of network connectivity issues when connecting to certain virtual private networks in previous releases.

[real-time subtitles]

  • some full-screen applications, such as video players, can’t see live subtitles.

  • SOME APPLICATIONS LOCATED NEAR THE TOP OF THE SCREEN, WHICH ARE CLOSED BEFORE RUNNING LIVE CAPTIONS, WILL BE RESTARTED BEHIND THE LIVE CAPTIONS WINDOW LOCATED AT THE TOP. WHEN THE APPLICATION HAS FOCUS, USE THE SYSTEM MENU (ALT + SPACEBAR) TO MOVE THE APPLICATION’S WINDOW FURTHER DOWN.
