Android 12 was one of the updates of the robot richest in graphic innovations, from the new design language Material You to the second youth donated to often underestimated tools such as widgets and it is precisely from the union of these two novelties that the most recent addition in the Google Translate application for Android is born.

The new Material You widget from Google Translate

It might seem strange — and it is a bit so since Android has widgets for an infinite amount of time before iOS and Google develops both the operating system and the Google Translate application — but this new feature arrives on Android with (over) a month later than the iOS app: there, in fact, the new convenient widget to interact with the Big G translator had already arrived in March.

Oddities aside, the novelty is still noteworthy: so far, in fact, the Google Translate application for Android has offered only a widget consisting of a shortcut in size 1×1 that allows the user to combine two languages to open them quickly. Now, however, as you can see from the following image, the app is getting a new widget in the perfect Material You style with greater possibilities for interaction.

The design of the widget resembles that of Google Maps and there is also support for the dynamic theme system, so the colors of the widget change according to the background set.

Put aside the discussion on the graphic part, the functional one deserves even greater attention: the widget consists of two lines: the first allows the user to set the languages, open the app with a single tap and paste the copied text, the second offers a series of useful shortcuts for the Voice Input, Conversation, Transcription and Camera.

At present, version 6.34 of Google Translate for Android does not yet see the new widget available to all users; this could happen with a new update or with a more likely server-side intervention. On the other hand, Google’s announcement tweet contains no information whatsoever. Waiting to learn more, download the latest version of Google Translate on the Google Play Store.
