After a period of testing, the new version of the web-based Microsoft Store quietly went live earlier this month. Unlike the classic web store nested inside Microsoft.com, this new web store has been moved to apps.microsoft.com, allowing browsing and installing extensions of Chromium Edge in addition to apps.

Microsoft has not officially announced that it will migrate to the new version, and the Microsoft Store on the classic web site is still accessible.

The store is called “Windows Apps” and has the same goal as the native store app to help you explore content when you leave the master device. It’s also useful if you like to discover links through search engines or platforms.

As you can see in the screenshot above, the new design of the new Microsoft Store on the web side is closer to Windows 11, and it seems to follow the principles of Fluent Design. It uses rounded corners, minimalist icons, etc. However, it does not support dark mode, but this may be added in a future release.

unlike the classic web store, the new Microsoft store doesn’t let you see information like the last updated date or release date of your app, but you can still see app descriptions, screenshot previews, and reviews and ratings. you can also click on the “install” button to download the app through a new pop-up window, which makes the installation process not even require opening the app store.
