Firefox 100 is here with subtitles for PiP mode and more

If you have chosen Firefox from Mozilla as your browser of choice, you can start the internal update function directly and have Firefox version 100 downloaded and installed. Firefox 100 is available now for both desktop and Android versions.

In the mobile versions of the browser you now get a revised chronicle and tab overview, a secure “HTTPS only mode” and new wallpapers. Worth mentioning: Both the two new wallpapers (“Beach Vibes” & “Twilight Hills”) as well as the functions for the clearer timeline & clearer tabs will not be available on iOS yet, but will only be available later in the week.

Subtitles for the picture-in-picture mode, a new function for individual language settings and the completion of credit card data are also added to the desktop. Mozilla informs about the subtitles and captions in a picture-in-picture mode that will initially be available on YouTube, Prime Video and Netflix, as well as websites that support the WebVTT format.

For Android and iOS users of Firefox 100, as mentioned, a clearer history and clearer tabs are added. For example, URLs have been reorganized and grouped. Content in the timeline should then be grouped according to its original article, and duplicate pages will also be removed from the history.

Tabs now behave in such a way that tabs that have not been visited within 14 days are switched to inactive and hidden. They can still be found, but can then be found under the “inactive tabs”. Android users are already familiar with the function, so it is now also available for iOS users.

Those who value data protection also make sure that they only surf to sites with the HTTPS protocol. For this purpose, there is also the so-called “HTTPS only mode” in Firefox (now also for Android users), which automatically redirects all non-HTTPS pages and also points out and warns of this circumstance if there is no protocol.

Language switching on first boot is a new feature intended to make it easier to use a preferred language. When you start Firefox for the first time, it recognizes that a language setting has been made for the device. If this is different from Firefox’s default language, the user will be asked if they want to switch to one of the 100+ languages supported by the browser. In this country, the automatic completion of saved credit card information is now also supported in Firefox.
