Google Chrome: New magic button is rolled out for Android users, combines several functions

The Chrome browser’s interface hasn’t changed significantly in many years, but at least users of the Android version can look forward to a new button in the navigation bar: With the update to version 101, a magic button appears that takes on various functions can and should predict what the user might want to do next.

The Chrome for Android interface essentially consists of the address bar and the three buttons for HOME, the tabs and the Chrome menu. There isn’t much room for more buttons, but Google’s developers would like to add a number of functions. This is supposed to work with a new smart button that was tested a long time ago and has reached many users with the update to version 101.

If the button is active, it can take on three different functions: open a new tab, open the share dialog or start the voice search. All functions that are already just a step away, but should probably be given the big stage. The algorithms in the background should decide which of the three functions is offered there. If you don’t want this or if the browser often makes wrong decisions, you can define in the settings which function should be displayed permanently.

If you still haven’t received the button despite updating to version 101, a flag can help you: simply open the internal page chrome://flags, look for the entry #adaptive-button-in-top-toolbar-customization and activate it.
