Google Pixel 3a support ends

If you use a Google Pixel 3a or 3a XL, you can no longer count on regular security updates from Google from this month. The phones were announced in May 2019 as a cheaper variant of the Pixel 3 and 3 XL. The phones were entitled to three years of security updates and they also got their last major version update with the update to Android 12 in October last year.

The Pixel 3a series stood out with its strong camera performance in exchange for the price. The phones got the same camera that was also in the Pixel 3 series, combined with Google’s camera software and image processing. Google explained afterward that it was a challenge for its Pixel team to optimize the camera due to the less powerful Snapdragon 670 chipset.

Pixel 6a

Meanwhile, with the arrival of the Pixel 6 series, Google has tightened its update policy. The Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are the first devices from the brand to receive an update in five years. Only Samsung does even better than Google because in addition to five years of security patches, it also provides version updates for four years.

Google is rumored to be introducing its Pixel 6a this month, which is the last member of the cheaper Pixel series. It is again one model, different from the Pixel 3a and 3 XL. The launch is expected to take place on May 11 during the first day of the Google I/O event. Here you can discover everything we already know about the phone.
