The Nintendo Switch family of systems has sold 24.6 million units in Japan to date, surpassing the sales figures it took the Nintendo 3DS to reach in a decade. However, the classic Nintendo DS sold 32.86 million, so the Switch still has a long way to go.
In February of this year, Nintendo today announced data for the fourth quarter of 2021. The global sales of Switch game consoles reached 103.54 million units, successfully surpassing the 101.63 million units of Wii consoles.
That means it took less than five years for the Switch console to become Nintendo’s best-selling console. In addition, the Switch also officially surpassed the 102.5 million sales of Sony’s PlayStation (the first generation) and jumped to fifth place in the history of game console sales. The top four are PS2, DS, GB, and PS4.

Nintendo had previously expected that they could only sell about 20 million Switch game consoles this fiscal year, down 10% from fiscal 2021. Despite strong demand, production has been affected by issues such as semiconductor shortages and logistics disruptions. Work.
That figure is said to be down 30 percent from fiscal 2020 when Switch sales peaked at 28.83 million units.
