The Google I/O developer conference will start in two days. As the most important Google event of the year, it always has many new products, features and prospects for future developments up its sleeve. The keynote turns out to be a surprise bag every year, where one or the other previously unleaked surprise is announced. We show you the products that will almost certainly be talked about on the big stage.
The Google I/O developer conference is a highlight of the tech year, because it no longer lives up to its original intention alone, but has developed into a large stage for announcements many years ago – this applies especially to the keynote. At no other Google event are there so many announcements, outlooks and sometimes insights into current developments. Maybe followed by the fall event, which always only has the Pixel series in its luggage.
There are even bigger question marks behind many products this year, although some of them have already been extensively leaked. This applies in particular to the new pixel products, which, with normal expectations, should go on sale this month – but there are no signs of this yet. It cannot be ruled out that there will be shifts of several months and therefore instead of a real announcement one can only serve with teasers and outlooks for the following events.
The following list can only contain the expected big products anyway, but of course, we will keep you up to date in the following days and will publish all important announcements and developments in a timely manner. There will also be a live stream from the event, which will usually only be activated the day before the presentation and will take you to the keynote stage. Aside from the keynote, there will be countless other announcements that are actually more aimed at developers and are not relevant to the masses.
Pixel 6a
It’s pretty certain that the budget smartphone, the Pixel 6a, will be mentioned on the big stage. Google CEO Sundar Pichai announced many new pixel products two weeks ago and linked them to the successful Pixel 6 smartphones, among other things. An official announcement is considered likely, but the start of sales could, as with the previous generations, be postponed a bit.
Android 13
Android 13 has already been released in several pre-release versions and has been available as a beta for all current Pixel smartphones since last week. Some previously discovered innovations will be made official on the big stage, perhaps further innovations will be announced and activated remotely, or previews of upcoming functions for the next betas will be given. In any case, Android 13 will be mentioned as the operating system is increasingly expanding to other platforms. From the smart display to the tablet comeback and the desktop to the budget smartphone, everything is there.
Pixel Watch
The Pixel Watch is finally coming. There is no longer any doubt about that and it would be a big surprise if it was not announced or at least promised as early as next Wednesday. The development from the first speculations to today has taken a good five years and now the first smartwatch is finally around the corner. However, the same rule applies as with the Pixel 6a, that the start of sales could be pushed back significantly.
Wear OS
The new version of the Wear OS operating system is inextricably linked to the Pixel Watch and both should be presented together. Wear OS 3.x has been available on the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 for the past year, but it’s only coming to many other smartwatches over the next few weeks and months (or so we think). A lot is already known about the new operating system through leaks and also the Samsung Smartwatch.
Pixel Buds Pro
Just a few days ago, the Pixel Buds Pro suddenly appeared in the rumor mill. There is hardly any information, but the leak is still considered plausible due to the gap in the portfolio and it seems very likely that Google will present the new headphones in the higher class either now or in a few weeks.
Smart Display
Google wants to combine smart displays with tablets, as has been shown by several leaks in recent weeks. These should have a removable display that can be used as a tablet. This not only brings with it a new form, but also a new operating system (probably Android) and new application possibilities. Whether the product is already ready or will only be announced at a later Nest or Smart Home event is difficult to assess.
Fuchsia
It is only mentioned here for the sake of completeness and at some point, it has to happen. The new operating system is expected year after year but never came. Maybe it will be in 2022, maybe not.
Google Maps Streetview
This is more of a local topic and not a real new product, but very exciting from a German point of view. There are increasing signs that Google Maps Street View is about to be restarted in Germany. And what could be more fitting than announcing that on the big stage with the product’s 15th anniversary taking place at the same time? The odds have never been as good as they are now.
