Microsoft warns of Kentucky Derby season in Windows 10 search bar but accidentally spooks some users

The “Search Highlights” in the Windows 10/11 search box has just ushered in an interesting change. To remind users of the various seasonal moments of the year, it displays a fun mini-pattern like the Google Doodle – which you sometimes see on the right side of the main search box on Windows 10 (or on the top right of the Windows 11 search box) horn). Embarrassingly, some people thought it was cool, while others scoffed at it.

Over the weekend, ExpectoPatronum81 asked Reddit what the hell is this horse next to the Windows 10 search bar? As of the time of writing, 400+ users have posted their approval. Many people think that “Search Highlights” does not need to do this kind of work, after all, this is not a search engine webpage, but a more serious work operating system.

In addition, the horse racing icon in the Windows 10 search bar scared some people and even though their system was poisoned for a while.

Embarrassingly, this isn’t the first time Microsoft has been embroiled in a similar controversy. For example, in April, Microsoft catered to the NFL rookie season, and here let go of the football and a microphone icon.

If you really don’t want to see it anymore, you can also refer to the disabling guide provided by r/Windows10 moderator Froggypwns:

  • Windows 11 users can go to Privacy & Security → Search Permissions → More Settings to turn off the so-called ‘Search Highlights’.
  • Windows 10 users just right-click on the search bar and uncheck ‘Show Search Highlights’.
