Google Translate now allows users to save history across multiple devices

Now, users can finally save and easily access their past searches on Google Translate, which enables all users to create their own lists of translated words, phrases and sentences, which are useful for future reference. The news was just announced by Google on May 9, but the company actually had indications long before that the feature would launch in 2020.

Describing the new feature, Google said: “You can save your Google Translate history to find the meaning of the words or phrases you translate. Your saved translations are synced across your device. The Translate app keeps your history Sync from your device to the cloud. Your translations are automatically saved to the cloud when you log in.”

One of the main attractions of the new update will allow users to keep their data in the cloud and sync their devices through their Google account, making way for multi-device access – whether users are using a phone, tablet or laptop. Activation of the feature will begin when launching the Google Translate app, which will give users a prompt: “Back up your translation history.” The prompt will ask the user to provide the account they want to use, and under it, there will be options for “Manage History” and “Use Translator without an Account”. Using the latter will prevent Google Translate from backing up a user’s past translation searches. If the user does not want a certain device of his or her to synchronize with the data saved in the cloud by his Google account, he or only needs to log out of the application on that specific device.

On the other hand, to continue viewing a list of past translation searches simply go to the “History” option. It will load all previous translations in chronological order. Users can then select specific items they want to add to their favorites, resulting in a neat list of translated words.

After that, in Google Translate’s home screen view, the list can be accessed via the star icon in the upper left corner. Finally, users can adjust how long they want their searches to be stored in the list. Likewise, users can also access this setting by clicking on their account avatar at the top right of the Google Translate main view.

Previously, Google Translate only allowed search history to be saved on the user’s personal device. After that, the app began prompting its users in 2022 that search history will be available “soon” on devices with a signed-in Google account. Now, this will make the experience and access to the data and the service itself more seamless for all users.
