Epic Games will release the Unreal Engine 5 editor for Fortnite later this year. In an interview with Fast Company, Epic Games boss Tim Sweeney talked about how editors will empower users.
The editor will provide ‘the full power of what you see (Unreal Engine) so that anyone can build very high-quality game content and code…and deploy it to Fortress without having to make an agreement with us. Night – it’s open to everyone.
Sweeney said that “roughly half of the game time” of Fortnite is reflected in the game’s creative mode. This means that the opportunity to use Unreal Engine 5 will provide a huge advantage.
“Our goal is to make it a first-class channel to reach users, just like you can think of mobile app stores, consoles and Steam as a way to reach users. Now people are starting to see Fortnite and Roblox as Ways to reach users.”
Sweeney went on to add: “At the same time, we are building an economy that will support creators to build businesses around their work.” This will increase “the commercial profits that people generate when they play the content they create.”
