Samsung: Android 13 with One UI 5.0 brings themed icons for third-party apps

Android 12 has brought a lot of interesting new features with it over the past year, most notably the Material You theme language. It’s a new development that helps providers bring a connected look to Android while providing the ability to make the phone totally unique and personal.

Many smartphones based on Android 12 have adopted the new design language, as has Samsung’s One UI 4. It creates a color palette that syncs with the phone’s wallpaper and, when enabled, is applied to menus, buttons, backgrounds, and apps across your phone.

On Samsung phones with One UI 4, this theme is applicable not only to the company’s default apps but also to Google apps. But that’s not enough, because users want these themes to work for third-party applications on their phones as well. Fortunately, that will change with the Android 13 and One UI 5 this year.

Two Android 13 beta updates have been released showing that third-party apps can create their own themed icons, so one can always have a two-tone icon pack without having to install a custom launcher.

Just as Samsung and Google Apps are adopting the Material You theme on the One UI phone, so will third-party apps. This would allow us to completely customize our smartphone to our liking.
