Huawei Mate Xs 2 presented: Foldable with 7.8 inch diagonal

Huawei today introduced its new foldable, the Mate Xs 2. Unfortunately, the price and release date for Germany is still being kept secret. The foldable smartphone weighs 255 grams and should remain operational for a long time thanks to a particularly stable hinge. Unfolded, the diagonal can compete with tablets and is 7.8 inches.

According to the manufacturer, the Huawei Mate Xs 2 is equipped with a composite screen that is designed similar to an anti-collision system in cars and thus forms a shock absorber and buffer.

Incidentally, the folded OLED screen has a diagonal of 6.5 inches with 2,480 x 1,176 pixels. When opened, it is the mentioned 7.8 inches with 2,480 x 2,200 pixels. In addition, 120 Hz is mentioned as the refresh rate and 240 Hz as the touch sampling rate.

The chip inside is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 4G from the previous year. The fact that no newer SoC is missing and that 5G support is also conspicuous by its absence is probably due to the ongoing US sanctions against Huawei.

The processor is supported by 8 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage space – expandable by up to 256 GB using an NM card. The surface is called EMUI 12. The selfie camera in a punch hole has 10.7 megapixels. For the main camera it is then again 50 (wide-angle camera, f/1.8) + 13 (ultra wide-angle camera, f/2.2) + 8 (telephoto camera, f/2.2, OIS).

Huawei explicitly names dual SIM, 4G LTE (with band 20), NM card, Wi-Fi 6, NFC, GPS, Bluetooth 5.2 and of course USB-C (3.1) as interfaces for the Mate Xs 2. The phone also features Huawei’s so-called “3D fiberglass design,” which is said to provide a softer feel and reduce fingerprints on the screen. At least that’s what the manufacturer says.

The only question that remains is how expensive the fun should be and when the Huawei Mate Xs 2 could be launched in Germany. Are you convinced by the technical data? Unfortunately, of course, both the official Play Store and Google services will be missing on this model. That should dampen customer interest in our latitudes.

Update:

The Huawei Mate XS 2 is scheduled to appear in Germany in June 2022 and will cost 1,999 euros.
