Tesla increases top speed for vision-based autonomous driving to 136 km/h

Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed that Tesla will increase the speed of Autopilot, based on Tesla Vision Autosteer’s maximum speed has been increased to 85 mph.

Tesla began delivering Model 3 and Model Y vehicles in May 2021 with Tesla Vision, its camera-based Autopilot system, which vehicles have been delivered to the North American market. The system relies entirely on cameras and neural network processing to run Autopilot and Tesla Full Self-Driving (FSD), as well as a few other active safety features.

When Tesla announced the transition to Tesla Vision, the company also said at the time that some features would be temporarily limited, such as Autosteer. In January 2022, the Autosteer’s maximum speed is limited to 80 mph.

Autosteer’s maximum speed has increased, suggesting that Tesla has become more confident in its camera-based system, IT House understands. At the All In Summit tech conference in Miami, Musk noted that Tesla plans to expand its FSD testing. Currently, 100,000 vehicle owners participate in the FSD testing program, and Tesla is considering expanding the program to 1 million beta testers by the end of 2022.
