Windows 10: A bug prevents you from installing apps from the store on new Intel and AMD PCs

In the past few hours, Microsoft has released a major out-of-band (OOB) update for Windows 10, a patch that comes in a hurry to fix a serious bug reported by users after installing the KB5011831 build. Going into detail, we talk about app installation errors from the Microsoft Store with consequent error code 0xC002001B; but that’s not all, in other cases it seems that the installed software does not really start.

According to Microsoft itself, this problem does not affect all Windows 10 systems, but only those equipped with Intel Core 11th and 12th gen or AMD Ryzen 5000 and 6000 processors. The motivation apparently is due to the advanced security options implemented by AMD and Intel on the latest generation CPUs; Intel refers to Control-flow Enforcement Technology (CET), while AMD refers to Shadow Stack, both useful for mitigating ROP or COP / JOC attacks.

The Redmond company, as mentioned, has already run for cover and has released the OOB KB5015020 update which, as usual, comes either through Windows Update or from the Microsoft Update Catalog (link in VIA).
