A small tweak is all it takes to make Google Cast smarter

The ability to stream multimedia content from an Android smartphone seems natural but it is often not so obvious and not all applications include this feature by default.

The applications that do this, such as YouTube and YouTube Music, are able to transmit audio and video content in a very simple way to the many devices that support the Google Cast protocol and with a new modification to its interface, this process is becoming even easier for all those users who have to juggle many smart displays and speakers.

Google Cast improves its interface on Android

In practice, the change to which we refer is the one that is shown when the user touches the icon to transmit the desired audio or video content: Google Cast, in fact, will suggest one or more specific devices to which to transmit.

The following screenshot offers us a demonstration of this new interface, showing in the section of “suggested” devices the speaker in the bathroom (probably this could depend for example on the habit of that user to exploit this device in that specific part of the day):

It remains to be understood which is the criterion used by Google Cast to suggest the device to which to transmit the contents. According to the Chrome Unboxed staff, it is probably the last device used to be suggested but it would be even more interesting if the system were able to recommend smart displays and smart speakers based on the principle of the proximity of the various devices.

It seems that this new feature has started rolling out for users over the last week (this through a server-side update) and will likely actually be available to everyone else within a few days.
