Today Instagram rolled out a visual update of the platform by introducing the new Instagram Sans typeface. Instagram Sans is inspired by the design elements that characterize the platform, reflecting the company’s commitment to simplicity and craftsmanship.
Here is the new Instagram Sans font
Instagram aims to highlight a distinct identity with a font inspired largely by the combination of squares and circles (squircles) and in some places you can recognize the evolution of the cursive logo that Instagram has been using for years. Among the new fonts is Instagram Sans Regular, Bold, Light, Medium, Condensed and Condensed Bold.
Most Instagram Sans fonts are fairly simple sans-serif fonts. The social media said it has teamed up with expert linguists to make sure the typeface works in as many languages as possible, including languages like Thai and Japanese.
The gradient has also been reinvented with vibrant colors and a more vivid look to inspire moments of discovery. Instagram notes that the gradient has been reinvented using a 3D modeling process.
In terms of the new full-screen marketing layout, Instagram says it’s designed to celebrate simplicity. The layout affects how the photos and posts are displayed in the feed, however, you can use the bottom navigation bar to access the discovery, Reels, shopping tab and your own page. The icons for switching accounts, creating a post, checking notifications and browsing messages are also still on the top bar.
All of this is intended to create a more distinct identity, especially from the competitor TikTok, however, it will be necessary to see how users will react to the new Instagram look.
