GreedFall 2: Spiders wants to be what BioWare is no longer according to the CEO

Speaking with IGN USA, the CEO of Spiders – a team working (also) on GreedFall 2 The Dying World – revealed that the development company wants to be what BioWare is no longer, taking inspiration from games like Knight of the Old Republic.

Jehanne Rousseau – CEO of Spiders – said: “We are all fans of this type of games, so I think the reason why the Spiders decided to create BioWare-style RPGs was partly due to our frustration, because not we could play these kinds of games more. Because BioWare influenced us a lot, we really wanted to be able to develop these kinds of games.

The result of this passion is partly seen in games such as Mars War Logs (2013), a tribute to Mass Effect, and GreedFall (2019), a tribute to Dragon Age. GreedFall was successful and so the team decided to produce a sequel. “The idea is to give players who love BioWare-style games like Dragon Age the chance to travel to another world, with a different kind of setting.”

Spiders also says that another source of inspiration is Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), especially with regards to real-time combat with a tactical pause. To get closer to this goal, GreedFall 2 will propose companions with a higher quality AI.

Considering that the source of inspiration is BioWare, you might think that Spiders thinks they can make the best RPG ever. But the CEO says, “I’m not going to say the usual things like, ‘We want to be the best RPG studio, blah, blah.’

No, that can’t be true because there are much bigger studios. But we can offer players adventures. extraordinary and share with them the love for this type of game, for this type of story, and this is the goal that I set myself today”.
