PlayStation VR2 may be launched in the first quarter of 2023

Tianfeng International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo cited a recent supply chain investigation as saying: Although Sony has not officially released the PlayStation VR2, there are rumors that the virtual reality headset will begin mass production in the second half of 2022, and it is estimated Shipments are around 1.5 million.

The analyst mentioned in the tweet that several assemblers and parts suppliers of PS VR2 broke the news. As for whether it can arrive as promised in the first quarter of 2023, it still depends on the development progress of related games.

Sony earlier announced that the VR headset will come with more than 20 games from first- and third-party developers. And analysts also believe that PS VR2 will usher in a good start when it is released – “Sony’s position and resources in the game industry are expected to accelerate the development of 3A-level VR games (such as “Horizon: Call of the Mountain”), and conducive to the development of the industry.”

As for the component suppliers for the PS VR2, analysts point to six optical modules (including four 720p IR cameras + two eye-tracking sensors), and that Genius is the main supplier of aspherical lenses on the VR headset.

Ming-Chi Kuo said: In the augmented (AR)/virtual (VR)/mixed (MR) reality era, he believes that Genius will greatly benefit from aspheric/Fresnel lenses from Apple and other manufacturers, as well as high SAP orders from Pancake.

Other notable PS VR2 key suppliers include Goertek for assembly, Samsung Display (SDC) for OLED panels, and processor maker MediaTek. As for the latest game progress plan, Sony is expected to reveal it on June 2 (including PlayStation VR2 / third-party PS5 games). Interested friends can pay attention to our follow-up reports.
