Microsoft Surface Laptop Go 2 goes official, brings new colors and replaceable parts for $599

A week after BUILD, the 2022 developer conference, Microsoft announced an update to the Surface Laptop Go, renaming it Surface Laptop Go 2, offering new colors and more replaceable parts for personalization.

In 2020, Microsoft launched the Surface Laptop Go with homeschooling as a selling point amid the COVID-19 pandemic, starting at $549 to grab the attention of Chromebook-curious parents as they shop for supplies for their home learning environment.

Today, two years later, Microsoft follows the original Laptop Go with the Laptop Go 2, which will run the latest Windows operating system, introduce an improved 720p webcam and dual studio microphones, improve the typing experience, and feature the new Sage Colors, all of these improvements are $50 more than before, and the latest price is $599.

With Microsoft releasing the Surface Laptop SE six months ago, it now looks like the company is pitching the Surface Laptop Go 2 as a Chromebook competitor and more of a “low-cost” entry device in a traditional form factor.

The Surface Laptop Go 2 is equipped with Intel’s 11th-generation chips. The absence of the latest 12th-generation chips is mainly due to battery life and cooling considerations. Microsoft chose to use the 11th-generation chips on the Surface Laptop Go 2 to keep it relatively cool and quiet during operation.

In addition to tweaks to normal hardware, Microsoft is also pursuing a more manageable device, with the Laptop Go 2 featuring a replaceable SSD, C-Cover (keyboard and trackpad), AB Cover (display), and a battery that supports Surflink wiring to help users extend the life of this generation of laptops.

Much of the Surface Laptop Go 2 has remained relatively unchanged in terms of design compared to products from the past year, 2.48 pounds, its 3:2 – 12.4 PixelSense 10-point multi-touch display, polycarbonate composite and fiber The glass material, as well as the embedded fingerprint reader, are preserved. The Laptop Go 2’s port selection also sticks to the original Go’s layout: 1 USB-C, 1 USB-A, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a proprietary Surface charging port that supports 39W power.

The operating system comes with Windows 11 Home Edition and Microsoft 365 Home Edition, Microsoft 365 Apps, Xbox Apps and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate 1-month trial version pre-installed. The Surface Laptop Go 2 is available for pre-order starting today.
