Battlefield 2042 Season 1: How does the free and paid battle pass work?

In view of the launch of Season 1 of Battlefield 2042, scheduled for the current month of June, the DICE guys spoke on their official channels to explain the functioning of one of the most important innovations of the new content season: we are clearly talking about the inevitable Pass Battle.

Each new season of Battlefield 2042 will bring new content and experiences in the form of new maps, Specialists, weapons, vehicles, gadgets and Battle Passes. Just like in similar titles, the Battle Pass will be equipped with two paths in which to progress: free and premium.

Access to the first will be free for all owners of the game, while the second will only be accessible to purchasers of the Battle Pass Season 1 or the Year 1 Pass (included in the Gold and Ultimate editions).

Each Season’s Battle Pass consists of 100 levels, in which you can progress by gaining in-game experience. Unlockables related to gameplay (such as weapons and Specialists) and a certain amount of Battlefield Currency are included in the levels of the Free Battle Pass, for a total of 30 rewards out of 100.

The Premium Battle Pass, on the other hand, includes a reward for each of the 100 levels, including skins, user card backgrounds, weapon lucky charms and very special eliminations, plus additional Battlefield Currency and more.

To reach a new level in the Battle Pass, you need to earn Battle Pass points. There are two ways to get them: by earning XP in any Battlefield 2042 mode and by completing weekly missions. These missions require, for example, to revive 10 teammates or capture 5 flags in Conquest by their deadline.

Premium Battle Pass owners can also spend 150 VBF (Battlefield Currency) to immediately advance to the next level. VBF is the primary medium of exchange in Battlefield 2042 and can be purchased for real money or earned by progressing through the Battle Pass levels (even some free levels).

DICE made it clear that users have no in-game advantage by spending real money since Battlefield Currency can only be spent on cosmetic items that do not confer any battlefield advantage.
