iOS 15.6 Beta 2 fixes the Apple Music bug

Apple today released the public Beta 2 of iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 (build number: 19G5037d), and the software update came two weeks after Apple released iOS 15.6 and iPadOS 15.6 Beta.

As reported by 9to5 Mac, users discovered a bug in iOS 15 last month that caused Apple Music to be automatically added to the Dock after reinstalling the app — even though other apps were already there. Now, with the release of iOS 15.6 Beta 2 to developers this week, that bug has finally been fixed.

As YouTuber Aaron Zollo pointed out, iOS 15.6 will no longer automatically put Apple Music in the Dock if the user reinstalls the app for some reason. After the update, the Apple Music app icon appeared on the last page of the home screen, just like any other regular app.

The bug was discovered by users and the internet was flooded with reports of how the Apple Music app “kicked” out competing apps like Spotify. Some of them believe that Apple is taking some kind of anti-competitive approach by making Apple Music a focal point for iPhone and iPad users. However, it is not.

9to5Mac analyzed the iOS 15 code to confirm that Apple Music was indeed automatically added to the Dock due to a bug. In fact, there is a file inside iOS that contains the default location of each app on the home screen to organize apps after restoring the phone.

Apple probably never tested what would happen if a user removed and reinstalled Apple Music or any other app in the Dock by default. An Apple spokesperson later confirmed that the company was investigating the issue, which has now been resolved with iOS 15.6.
