According to mobile analytics firm Mixpanel, iOS 15 has an estimated adoption rate of nearly 90 percent, more than 250 days after its release, and nearly a year after Apple first previewed the update at WWDC 2021. According to Mixpanel, iOS 15 adoptions is estimated at 88.9 percent, an increase of nearly 10 percent from ten weeks ago.

Mixpanel’s numbers are based on tracking visits to apps and websites that use its mobile analytics SDK, so the numbers aren’t entirely accurate. Apple last provided iOS 15 adoption numbers in January, claiming that 72 percent of iPhones released in the past four years were running the company’s latest iOS version.

iOS 15 has seen slower adoption compared to iOS 14, in part because it’s a relatively small update, and when the update first rolled out, the first few bugs clouded users’ thinking about upgrading. iOS 15 includes improvements to some system apps, introducing a redesigned Do Not Disturb system, Live Text, and more.

Next week, Apple will preview iOS 16 and iPad OS 16 at its Worldwide Developers Conference, which opens on Monday, June 6. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the new update is expected to be an important one for users. Bloomberg has reported that Apple is planning to redesign the lock screen and improve existing built-in apps, interactions, and more. Apple also plans to make major changes to iPadOS to make its multitasking logic more like a Mac.

While Apple will preview iOS and iPadOS 16 next week, along with macOS 13, watchOS 9, and tvOS 16, those updates won’t be available to all users until later in the fall. Instead, Apple will test all updates over the summer to members and developers of the Public Beta testing program.
