The Gallery app in Chrome OS will soon integrate with Google Photos

At the time of writing, using a Chromebook, we have the ability to make some changes to the images directly from the default Gallery application; the tools integrated into the software in question allow us to crop, rotate, resize, and add filters or write text on an image. If we wanted to act deeper, we would need third-party software at the moment, but that will soon change thanks to Google Photos.

The Chromebook Gallery app will integrate with Google Photos for deeper image editing

In fact, it seems that Google, according to two new Chrome flags, intends with a future update to equip the Chrome OS Gallery app with a better editor for editing images, thanks to the integration with Google Photos.

  • Integration with photos of multimedia apps (image) Within the Gallery, enable the search for more editing tools for images in Photos

  • Integration with photos of multimedia apps (videos) Within the Gallery, enable the search for editing tools for videos in Photos

In practice, in Big G’s plans, there is the intention to provide a new option in the editor area, which will allow you to automatically open the chosen image in the full Android version of the Google Photos app, so you can take advantage of all the advanced editing features of the software in question (skin tones, vignettes, etc.).

In reality, it is already possible to take advantage of the editing functions of Photos on a Chromebook, but to do so it is necessary to open the app and manually search for the file to edit.

In practice, this is not a revolution, but more of a slight modification which, however, increases the user’s convenience; the future integration of the two apps will allow Gallery to remain a simple and fast application, delegating the most in-depth editing work to Google Photos.
