Apple plans to allow Public Beta testers to download HomePod software for the first time

Apple typically makes public betas (Betas) of iOS, macOS, tvOS and watchOS available to its public testing groups, but until today HomePod software updates for testing were limited to a select group of invited testers. And that will change in the latest round of testing, as Apple plans to let public testers test the HomePod 16 software.

On its Apple Beta Software Program website, Apple lists version 16 of the HomePod software as one of the beta versions that will be made available to public testers later this year. It’s tied with iOS 16, iPad OS 16, macOS Ventura, and tvOS 16.

Apple said on its beta software program’s website page:

New public betas for iOS 16, iPadOS 16, macOS Ventura, tvOS 16, HomePod software version 16, and watchOS 9 are coming soon. As a member of Apple’s Beta Software Program, you can help shape Apple’s software by playing pre-release versions and letting us know what you think.

As of now, Apple has not officially provided developers with the HomePod 16 software beta, so it is possible that Apple plans to release both the developer version and the public beta later in the summer. Apple previously said that testers of the Public Beta would begin getting it in July.
