Samsung to adjust working hours at Vietnam factory, cut mobile phone production

Since May this year, Vietnam’s daily new cases have surged, which has affected the operations of many international giants’ factories in Vietnam. According to the latest data from the Ministry of Health of Vietnam, from 6:00 on May 27 to 6:00 on May 28, Vietnam added 245 new confirmed cases of new coronary pneumonia, of which Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces added 135 and 52 cases respectively. The epidemic is still accelerating in northern Vietnam.

It is reported that Vietnam expanded the blockade of the northern industrial park on the 25th. Bac Ninh province, where Samsung’s factory is located, began to impose curfews and other travel restrictions on the 25th. The factory in Bac Giang City has more than 40 employees diagnosed and suspended operations.

Samsung’s investment in Vietnam is relatively large, and its industrial chain is relatively complete. What’s more, it is said that the rise of Vietnam depends on Samsung. Although only some factories have stopped production, it still has a certain impact on Samsung’s production capacity.

Today, according to South Korean media ElectronicTimes, Samsung’s Vietnam factory will cut smartphone production. It is reported that Samsung Electronics recently adjusted the working days of Vietnamese smartphone production workers from five days a week to three days.

However, the media did not identify the source of the news. Samsung’s Vietnam factory is its largest production base, producing more than 60% of Samsung smartphones. The report also said that major partners entering Vietnam with Samsung Electronics will also reduce the number of working days.

According to the report, according to Samsung Electronics, depending on the product line, some are adjusted to 3 days a week, 4 days a week, etc. At present, the number of working days is also decreasing, and companies are encouraging factory workers in Vietnam to take vacations. At the same time, production utilization rates in India and Brazil, Samsung’s second-largest smartphone production base, are also expected to decrease.
