Twitter launches new shopping format Product Drops

Twitter starts the test phase for its new shopping format called “Product Drops”. The latter is intended to enable buyers to stay up to date on the product launches that are most important to them. In turn, retailers want to be offered another opportunity in the social network to directly involve their target groups in important product news.

How is this supposed to work? If a retailer tweets about an upcoming product launch, users see a reminder function at the bottom of the tweet, the “Remind me” button. With one click, users can be reminded of the corresponding market launch.

On the day of the start of sales, you will receive an in-app notification 15 minutes before and also at the time of the start of sales. Clicking on the notification will display a “Shop on Website” button, allowing the item to be purchased on the retailer’s website.

So that users on Twitter know what they are signing up for before they click “Remind me”, clicking on the retailer’s tweet opens the page with the product details. This includes the price, images, a description of the product, and a clickable hashtag that shows what other buyers are saying about the product on Twitter.

Downside: First of all, the Product Drops function only starts in the USA and even there only on iOS devices. Product Drops are being tested with select partners including Dior, Fossil, and HomeDepot.
