Quest 2 headset will get Horizon Home virtual social experience

Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced today that the Horizon Home experience will be available to users in a recent update to the Quest 2 headset. This function can invite friends to be virtual guests at home, or communicate with friends in various scenarios.

When you first put on the headset, the scene provided by Horizon Home is your home, but you can choose from pre-made options such as a space station, a Japanese hotel, or a patio overlooking a mountain sunset.

With some unlicensed modifications, you can even upload your own environment – one user-designed this home from The Simpsons. In the future, Meta plans to introduce the ability to create your own environment without the use of third-party applications.

Zuckerberg showed off the new feature in a video with freelance climber Alex Honnold. They met in Zuckerberg’s home environment and jumped into a 360-degree video that Honnold uploaded as he free-climbed 1,000 feet on a cliff in the Dolomites.

Zuckerberg commented in his own Facebook post: “Watching Alex climb with Alex’s avatar in VR is awesome.
