Horizon Forbidden West: Update 1.16 greatly improves graphics at 60 FPS, for Digital Foundry

Digital Foundry has published a video analysis of the Horizon Forbidden West update 1.16, in which it shows the improvements of this update and confirms that it has solved some problems that plagued the 60 FPS mode, making it visually even more beautiful. According to the magazine, it is now the best graphics mode to play the Guerrilla video game on PS5.

It is explained that the vegetation issue that was present from D1 has been completely removed in Horizon Forbidden West. Digital Foundry explains that the game still uses a checkerboard rendering solution that produces a 3200 x 1800 image, but what changed was the anti-alising system that uses a previous frame already processed by the AA, in conjunction with the new one. unprocessed, to create the final processed version. Previously it used two unprocessed frames to create the new one.

It is then specified that update 1.16 introduces some bug fixes and other main changes to the game, such as the way the camera works, the position of the light sources and their intensity, and also the color gradations.

The changes are massive according to Digital Foundry and it’s not the norm for a developer to change so many technical aspects of a game. The magazine then congratulates Guerrilla for what he did with Horizon Forbidden West.
