Tesla’s German factory hires 500-600 employees per month

Brandenburg Regional Economic Minister Joerg Steinbach said that Tesla is hiring 500 to 600 people per month at its Gruenheide plant near Berlin, and is working with the National Employment Agency. Hiring workers the German automaker no longer needs.

So far, Tesla Berlin has hired a total of 4,100 to 4,500 employees, about 10 percent of whom are foreigners, mostly from Poland, Steinbach said. He also said that the Gruenheide plant will operate two shifts from May 23, and the third shift will start running before the end of the year.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a recent email to company employees that the weekly production of Tesla’s Berlin Gigafactory is approaching 1,000 vehicles. Previously, Tesla said it hoped to increase production at the Berlin Gigafactory to 5,000 to 10,000 vehicles per week by the end of 2022.

According to foreign media reports, production at Tesla’s German factory is still at a low level. Currently only 86 Model Y Performances roll off the production line every day at the plant. However, starting in the second half of July, the plant plans to ramp up production. Tesla’s German factory will produce about 30,000 vehicles by the end of the year. By the end of April, the factory will even be producing 1,000 Model Ys per week.
