Diablo 4: Blizzard explains why there will be no new classes at launch

Joe Shely, the game director of Diablo 4, explained in an interview the reasons why at the launch of the game there will be no new classes, but only the old glories of the previous chapters of the series.

Diablo 4’s fifth and final class, the Necromancer, was presented during the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase 2022. A return is undoubtedly welcome, but it is also true that part of the fans would have preferred some news on this front.

Shely explained that the decision not to include new classes was made on the basis of player expectations and to make sure that some of the aspects of the previous games are also present in Diablo 4, albeit reworked in a more modern way.

“Diablo 4 is in many ways a love letter to our fans,” said Shely. “We’ve focused a lot on the theme of” back to darkness. “And we know that when we make a Diablo game, they have very high expectations thanks to Diablo 2: Resurrected, Diablo 3 and the previous games.

So we know there are so many elements really have to be there and as far as classes are concerned we wanted to make sure that the kind of experiences players remembers fondly were there but in a more modern version. ”

The Diablo 4 classes present at launch will be the Barbarian, the Druid, the Necromancer, the Cutthroat and the Enchantress. Recently, Blizzard confirmed that the game will receive expansions after launch, which may add more classes to the game.

Diablo 4 will be available for PC and console during the course of 2023. Subscriptions to the beta are open now.
