Ferrari autopilot will never exceed level 2

This week Ferrari announced its strategic plan for 2026. In the next few years, Ferrari is planning to launch 15 new models, which include supercars and electric vehicles. Moreover, it also mentions that it will stick to L2-level assisted driving, thereby making the driving experience safer for the owner.

“Ferrari will limit its car’s self-driving capabilities to Level 2/L2+ in order to preserve the extraordinary emotions that the driver has,” the company said.

This stance on autonomous driving technology will undoubtedly form a clear distinction between it and mainstream manufacturers who are keen to implement autonomous driving technology. After all, few people who buy sports cars at this stage care about autonomous driving.

Assisted driving at the L2 and L2+ levels includes an array of ADAS that can control the car under certain conditions, but still requires the driver’s full attention and readiness to take over. This level of self-driving technology is the most widely used, including GM’s Super Cruise, Ford’s BlueCruise and Tesla’s Autopilot, and Ford and GM are extremely limited.

In order to accelerate the pace of getting rid of internal combustion engines, the Italian automaker announced that it will launch its first all-electric model in 2025 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030.

Ferrari said it expects adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization to climb to as high as 2.7 billion euros in 2026, up from 1.5 billion euros last year. Ferrari’s CEO said the company’s all-electric cars will have the highest power density, derived from Formula 1 experience; the company will design and manufacture its own electric motors, inverters and battery modules for the new electric models.

The company expects all-electric models to account for 5% of sales in 2025 and 40% in 2030; hybrid models will account for 55% of sales in 2025 and 40% in 2030. The Ferrari CEO also mentioned that 15 new models will be launched between 2023 and 2026; the new Purosangue SUV will not yet be the company’s most valuable product but will be an “interesting” addition to its lineup.

Ferrari also said it would expand its Maranello plant to manufacture electric cars and design batteries, confirming previous media reports.
