Google TV: Use multiple profiles, new feature is finally rolled out for Chromecast users

Since the big restart last year, the smart TV platform Google TV has received a number of smart features, all of which adapt to the needs of users and should be easily accessible thanks to the deeply integrated Google Assistant. An innovation that was announced a long time ago is now rolling out to many devices: Google TV finally has profiles that can be switched between very easily.

In many households, there are likely to be several smart devices that are used by completely different people. While the smartphone is the personal companion, smart displays or the television are probably shared with all roommates in most cases. But this can be problematic, especially with the television, due to the many smart features, because if people with different tastes use the device, the recommendations and the personal assistant cannot work.

Profiles have now been announced for Google TV, which can be switched between as easily as on a tablet or computer. The app basis is the same for all users, but the Google TV interface, the recommendations of the Assistant and also the watch list are managed individually for each user. Interestingly, there is no longer a shared profile at all, which I think would still be necessary, especially for television. But that’s what Basic Mode is for.

The new profiles were announced in October 2021 and promised to be rolled out in the near future. It took a little longer, but these days it’s rolling out to many Chromecast users with Google TV. Users of Sony and TCL or other brands should then have their turn.
