DICE intends to relaunch Battlefield 2042 with all its strength, so much so that it doesn’t have time to follow other projects such as Mirror’s Edge or other potential games, since the goal is to make the shooter the only ongoing project within the team.
This is what Rebecka Coutaz, the new General Manager of DICE, reported in her first interview since holding the role in question: “We are only focused on Battlefield 2042, there is no time for anything else and this is what we want to do. “Coutaz said in response to the team’s question about possible new projects.
“In three years, we want to be the forge of high-caliber first-person shooter that SAYS deserves to be, and that’s what we’re going to do.”
The idea that derives from the general reorganization of DICE, which had already been announced in recent months, is that the team is destined to be dedicated exclusively to the Battlefield series, thus trying to counteract the “COD factory” set up by Activision with its teams.
This would leave no room for other games, so it seems to be ruled out that DICE could from now on take care of other projects, such as Mirror’s Edge, for example. “We want DICE to be the number one team for first-person shooter games in Europe, and one of the biggest in the world,” Coutaz said. “It’s a fabulous team, we will create magic together”.
Battlefield 2042 had a decidedly difficult start, with several technical issues emerging and a worrying decline in players within weeks of launch, however, EA intends to continue with long-term support, CEO Andrew Wilson also reported last year.
“This is one of the great franchises in the industry, built by one of the greatest teams in the industry and our expectations are to continue to grow it and make it an increasingly important part of our portfolio for many more years,” Wilson reported. . DICE has therefore been reorganized by also taking advantage of Vince Zampella’s guide on the Battlefield brand, destined to become a universe connected with games and projects from various teams.
