WatchTube lets users watch YouTube videos directly on Apple Watch

According to the latest report, the Apple Watch allows you to do many things without an iPhone, such as listening to songs, reading and sending messages, and even answering calls. But if you want to do something like watch a video, you probably need your phone — and now you don’t. With WatchTube, users can watch YouTube videos directly from their Apple Watch.

WatchTube is a new app that, as the name suggests, lets you watch any YouTube video on your Apple Watch. Most importantly, it works as expected. The app doesn’t require any complicated setup, not even from your iPhone. Users can download WatchTube directly from the watchOS app store and use it. Once the app is installed on your watch, just open it and you can watch YouTube videos.

The interface is surprisingly good for a platform as complex as YouTube. Users will find four different sections in the app: Home, Search, Library, and Settings. Just like the official YouTube app, the homepage displays videos that are trending on the platform. If you wish, the app lets users select a specific video category to display on the homepage.

The built-in search function works especially well with the Apple Watch Series 7 keyboard. Of course, users can also use dictation and doodles to search for videos in the app. Just like the real YouTube, WatchTube’s search highlights top search results for videos and channels.

With WatchTube, users can even subscribe to channels and save videos to find them later in the Library tab. Unfortunately, the WatchTube Library is completely native, which means you can’t link it to your YouTube account. Fortunately, the app provides a QR code so you can share and access specific videos on another device, like your iPhone or iPad.

In addition to these features, WatchTube supports video subtitles and even offers the option to change the text size. Videos are loaded onto the Apple Watch quickly — if you don’t have AirPods or Bluetooth headphones, the app uses the Apple Watch’s built-in speakers.

According to WatchTube developers, a future update will add an audio-only mode so you can listen to YouTube songs without having to keep the Apple Watch’s display on all the time.

If you want to give WatchTube a try, it’s free on the App Store. The app requires an Apple Watch running watchOS 6 or later.
