Google Calendar should lose the reminder feature

Further changes are emerging in the source code of the latest Android app for Google Calendar. Just a few days ago we reported on the crazy world of reminder functions in the Google apps and now another change is on the way. The first indications are that there should no longer be any classic reminders in the calendar in the future.

Only tasks and no more reminders

For the Google calendar, it is planned to only offer Google Tasks. In addition to appointments, you will only be able to create and see tasks. Instead, reminders are to be removed from Google Calendar as a feature. It is currently not clear whether existing reminders will continue to be displayed or even be converted into tasks.

Modification for a big new feature in Google Assistant?

This conversion could also be a further step towards the new memory function. It is to be integrated into the Google Assistant and appeared for the first time last year. Memory is meant to be a very broad tool for memories of all kinds. These can be simple text reminders, but also content from the web.

Google absolutely needs to clean up its memory game inside and outside of the apps. Although reminders are integrated into various apps, they are not universally usable. In addition, the Reminders interface on the web is rather old-fashioned, offers virtually no functions and therefore definitely needs a major update.

Most recently, users had already been informed that location-based reminders via Google Assistant would soon no longer be usable. Indeed, it appears that there is some gradual preparation for the introduction of memory. Which will hopefully be the structured answer to the confusion so far.
