Microsoft today released new optional updates (C-Updates) for all supported versions of Windows 10 and Windows 11. If users use the initial version of Windows 11, they can now check for updates from Windows Update and download the KB5014668 patch, and the system version number will be raised to Build 22000.778.

This release adds search highlights to Windows Search. This feature will provide various important information about today, such as holidays, anniversaries, etc. For enterprise customers, Search Highlights recommends the latest updates and documents.

Other improvements in KB5014668, include bug fixes for important issues, such as Windows 10 not being able to update to Windows 11, reconnecting to a Bluetooth device, playing games that depend on certain audio technologies, issues accessing Surface Dial settings, etc.

Here are the highlights of the update:

Search Highlights

Search Highlights will showcase especially important and interesting moments of the day, such as holidays, anniversaries, and other educational moments around the world and in your region. To see search highlights, click or tap the search icon on the taskbar. For business customers, search highlights will also include the latest updates from the organization, with suggested contacts, files, and more.

Search Highlights will roll out to Windows 11 customers over the next few weeks. Microsoft is taking a phased approach with a broad rollout over the next few months.

  • Addresses an issue that could prevent Windows 10 users from upgrading to Windows 11 (initial release). Note that this is related to the timing of certain actions in the operating system, not device qualification.
  • Addresses an issue that could prevent video clips from playing in some games.
  • Addressed an issue that caused some games to stop working when playing sound effects using certain audio technologies.
  • Resolved an issue preventing Bluetooth from reconnecting to some audio devices after restarting the device.
  • Change the Your Phone app name to Phone Link on the settings page.
  • Addresses an issue that causes the Microsoft Surface Dial custom settings page to stop working.

Here are all the updates:

Improve

  • This non-security update includes quality improvements. Key changes include:
  • New features! Added IP address auditing for incoming Windows Remote Management (WinRM) connections in security event 4262 and WinRM event 91. This fixes an issue where the source IP address and computer name of remote PowerShell connections could not be logged.
  • New features! Added Server Message Block (SMB) Redirector (RDR) specific Common File System Control (FSCTL) code FSCTL_LMR_QUERY_INFO.
  • New features! Configure SMB client and SMB server cipher suite orders using PowerShell.
  • New features! Adds support for Transport Layer Security (TLS) 1.3 in Windows client and server Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) implementations.
  • Addresses a race condition that could cause upgrades to Windows 11 (original version) to fail.
  • Fixed an issue where Japanese characters were displayed incorrectly in PowerShell.
  • Addresses an issue that affects the cloud clipboard service and prevents syncing between computers after a period of inactivity.
  • Resolved an issue where the Windows Sandbox splash screen could not be hidden after the sandbox started running.
  • Addresses an issue that causes devices with Japanese system locales to stop working when End User Defined Characters (EUDC) are disabled.
  • Enable the InternetExplorerModeEnableSavePageAs group policy.
  • Provides the ability to use a network proxy during generic printing operations.
  • Addresses an issue that causes continuous video clip playback to fail in games using DirectX 12 (DX12).
  • Fixed an issue that caused some games to stop working when playing sound effects using the XAudio API.
  • Addresses an issue affecting some certificate chains for root certification authorities that are members of the Microsoft Root Certification Program. For these certificates, the certificate chain status is “This certificate has been revoked by its certificate authority”.
  • Addresses an issue that prevents Encrypting File System (EFS) files from being used over a Web-based Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) connection.
  • Addresses an issue that causes domain controllers to incorrectly write Key Distribution Center (KDC) event 21 in the System event log. This happens when the KDC successfully processes a Kerberos public key encryption for initial authentication (PKINIT) authentication request that includes a self-signed certificate for the key trust scheme (Windows Hello for Business and device authentication).
  • Addresses an issue that prevents Bluetooth from reconnecting to some audio devices after restarting the device.
  • Addresses an issue when Active Directory Lightweight Directory Services (AD LDS) resets the password for the user proxy object. Password reset fails when you try to reset someone else’s password and use a simple bind for authentication. The error is something like “00000005: SvcErr: DSID-03380C23, problem 5003 (WILL_NOT_PERFORM), data 0”.
  • Addresses an issue that causes Microsoft NTLM authentication using external trusts to fail. This issue occurs when the domain controller that contains the service for the 11/11/2022 or later Windows Update authentication request is not in the root domain and does not have the global catalog role. Affected operations may log the following errors:
  1. The security database has not been started.
  2. The domain is in the wrong state while performing a security operation.
  3. 0xc00000dd (STATUS_INVALID_DOMAIN_STATE) 。
  • Addresses an issue that causes the LocalUsersAndGroups configuration service provider (CSP) policy to fail when modifying the built-in administrator group. This issue occurs if the local administrator account is not specified in the membership list when the replace operation is performed.
  • Resolved an issue where malformed XML input could cause DeviceEnroller.exe to fail. This prevents the CSP from being delivered to the device until the device is rebooted or the XML is corrected.
  • Resolved an issue where Windows 11 (original version) stopped working without a network connection when installing an app.
  • Update the Start menu to display Windows PowerShell when you right-click (Win + X) the Start menu button after uninstalling Windows Terminal.
  • Change the name of the Your Phone app on the settings page to Phone Link.
  • Addresses an issue that causes the Microsoft Surface Dial customization page to stop working.

If an earlier update is installed, only the new update contained in this package will be downloaded and installed.

Known Issues

For IT administrators

After installing this update, some .NET Framework 3.5 apps may experience issues or fail to open. Affected apps use certain optional components in the .NET Framework 3.5, such as Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) and Windows Workflow (WWF) components.

This problem can be mitigated by re-enabling .NET Framework 3.5 and Windows Communication Foundation in Windows Features. For instructions, see Enable .NET Framework 3.5 in Control Panel. Advanced users or IT administrators can do this programmatically using an elevated command prompt (Run as administrator) and run the following commands:

dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:netfx3 /all
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:WCF-HTTP-Activation
dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:WCF-NonHTTP-Activation

For all users

After installing this update, Windows devices may not be able to use the Wi-Fi hotspot feature. When attempting to use the hotspot feature, the host device may lose its connection to the Internet after the client device connects. To mitigate this issue and restore Internet access on the host device, the Wi-Fi hotspot feature can be disabled.
