A year ago, AMD released the first Radeon Software driver without official Windows 7 support. Starting with version 21.6.1, the latest AMD drivers can only be run on Windows 10 and newer.
Nonetheless, sometimes AMD releases unscheduled updates aimed at fixing specific issues or security vulnerabilities in unsupported products. Today, AMD released the 22.6.1 driver update for Windows 7, which has long been discontinued.
AMD Radeon Software 22.6.1 fixes a Windows 7-related bug:
- AMD Radeon software may not install on some AMD graphics products, such as the Radeon RX 6900 XT.
Additionally, there are two long known issues in driver 22.6.1 that AMD just doesn’t fix:
- Enabling Enhanced Sync may result in a black screen on some games and system configurations, and the temporary solution is to disable it.
- Radeon performance metrics and logging may intermittently report extremely high and incorrect memory frequencies.
- Note that driver 22.6.1 is only available for Windows 7 systems , users with Windows 10 and Windows 11 etc. can download version 22.5.2.
