Google Files has finally introduced a very useful option

Google’s Files is probably one of the less famous apps of the Mountain View house, but it is undoubtedly one of the most useful and underestimated: born as Files Go in 2017 and designed above all to help owners of low-end devices to keep their memory free. From junk files, the app has evolved to become an increasingly feature-rich file manager and now gains an option that users have been waiting for for a long time.

Among the recent new additions of greatest interest deserve to be mentioned are the recycle bin, which helps in the recovery of accidentally deleted files, the safe folder, integration with Google Photos for Smart Storage and Favorites folder, and, finally, the app search filters.

Google files: here are the default apps

The latest update of Google’s Files is dated June 21, 2022, and finally, the Google team has introduced an option to set certain applications as default for opening certain types of files.

Previously, every time the user went to open a particular file, he found himself having to choose – in a small dialog box – among all the apps on the device and able to perform the action. Finally, this hassle has been eliminated: thanks to the new option “ Remember my choice ” (“Always”), you only have to select your app of choice the first time, after which the files will be automatically opened by it.

Think, for example, of PDFs or other types of files that you usually open on your Android device. As trivial as it may seem, by activating the new option, you can finally open them on the fly, without having to choose the app to use every single time.

Of course, in case you want to change your selection, there is no question: just open the settings of the app you have set, scroll to the bottom of the page, and tap Delete presets.
