Overwatch 2 may add game guilds and built-in tournament system

Some core members of Overwatch 2 participated in the forum AMA session this week and introduced some information about the game. Game director Aaron Keller said the development team is working on a guild-like social system, and built-in tournaments will also be added to Overwatch 2.

“We are adding more social systems to Overwatch 2, and the most likely first choice is the guild system. This feature brings a huge opportunity, but it also carries a lot of weight, not only for us but for some other Blizzard The same goes for departments. We’ve put a lot of work into this feature, but it’s too early to talk about details and a launch date.”

“And other suggestions and built-in tournament features are also the focus of the development team.”

Keller also explained that the Blizzard team invested three times as many resources into Overwatch 2 as it did when the original game came out. Even so, they have to take into account PVE elements and other content, so they can’t launch new heroes quickly.

“The heroes of Overwatch are very exciting. We put a lot of effort into each hero. It is also very gratifying for the development team to see players’ expectations for new heroes (and we want!), but now There’s a reason why there aren’t many heroes at launch. First, the development of Overwatch 2 was split into PVE and PVP from the start, with a schedule that prioritized the release of the game on time.

To be clear, we did not Some well-made heroes and content are not reserved for subsequent seasons. While we continue to iterate PVE content, it means that the schedule of PVP content will be slightly delayed. Many functions of PVE, such as enemy units and hero talents, etc.

All require the resources of the hero production team. For us, the release of the game on time is the top priority, and we cannot delay the release of the game in order to make a few more heroes. What makes the decision to publish content so happy is that we publish it as soon as it’s done, rather than hiding it until the time is right.”

“To achieve our new long-term plan, we have expanded and rebuilt our team. Today our team is three times the size of our previous launch. We have big plans for this game, in addition to new heroes, new maps and new modes.

We still have a lot of content to complete every season, which requires a lot of resources and planning. For example, we have a few heroes that need to be developed in-depth. The heroes of the second season are also nearing completion, and we still have more to do with the next three heroes. Multi-stage testing, two of which are support heroes.”

“Overwatch 2” will be released in the form of free early access on October 4, landing on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X and NS platforms, supporting cross-platform play and cross-platform save function. Blizzard recently announced that “Overwatch 2” will also abandon the box-opening system, and the currency will also be converted conditionally.
