The At a Glance Widget wants to leave users speechless with something new

The Google developer team last month updated the Widget At a Glance, introducing reminders for the torch and alerts for the Nest range bell but it seems that in the programs of the Mountain View giant there is another important news: we are referring to a “ Cross-Device Timer “ feature, which should be able to integrate with Google Home.

At a Glance currently shows timer and stopwatch information from the Clock app. In the top, left corner of the lock screen and home screen is a real-time countdown that simply opens the app the moment it is touched.

Here’s how At a Glance will get rich

According to what was discovered by the staff of 9to5Google by analyzing the code of the 13.26 beta version of the Google App, the team of developers is working on a new feature. Here are two strings:

<string name = “ambient_settings_cross_device_timer_toggle_title”> Cross Device Timer </string>

<string name = “ambient_settings_cross_device_timer_toggle_subtitle”> Timer info from your home devices </string>

As for the expression “Timer info”, which is rather vague, presumably, it refers only to the countdown but it is the next part that is interesting, “from your home devices”, as it highlights that any timer set on smart displays and smart speakers will be shown in At a Glance on Google Pixel series phones.

It is currently unclear whether users will be able to delete them from their smartphone or if the widget will show the affected device and this event will be accompanied by the following icon:

When you consider that one of the most common complaints among smart display and smart speaker users is their inability to sync with Google Assistant devices, this is a step towards better integration. At the moment the Cross-Device Timer functionality seems not to be available to users yet, but Google will probably soon implement it for everyone. Just have a little patience.
