Microsoft Xbox Series X has now sold 250,000 units in Japan

It looks like the Xbox brand may finally be making some headway in Japan. Earlier this year, the X Series surpassed the PlayStation 5 in weekly sales in Japan not once but twice in May and June. While this is undoubtedly due in large part to the PS5’s stock shortage, there’s no doubt that the next-gen Xbox will have a much bigger response among Japanese gamers than its predecessors.

In fact, it took less than a year for the X Series console to cross the 100,000-unit threshold in Japan, while the Xbox One only sold about 114,000 units over its lifetime. It is understood that the sales of the X Series in Japan have exceeded the 250,000 mark, which is less than two years since its release. That number comes from video game industry analysts and Twitter user Benji-Sales, who looks at social metrics and sales — including Xbox Series sales in Japan.

Aaron Greengberg, general manager of Xbox game marketing, reacted to the news: “Thank you to everyone in Japan for choosing Xbox. We appreciate it and look forward to your continued patronage.” It’ll be interesting to see if Xbox can maintain its forward momentum in the Japanese market — especially if the persistent supply shortages that have plagued this generation of consoles so far improve.
