Electric car charging speed test: Tesla Model Y trails Porsche, Kia and Mercedes

With the development of new energy vehicles, both DC fast charging and AC fast charging technologies have made great progress. There are currently three main charging levels in the industry, offering different speeds and power levels: Level 1 AC (120V), Level 2 AC (240V), and DC Fast Charge.

US witch has tested and compared the electric vehicles certified in the United States and obtained the current 10 fastest charging models. The performance and other data are mainly from the EV Database. Models’ charging and fast-charging speeds are then ranked according to a standardized index that takes into account both regular and fast-charging speeds, with the highest-scoring models in the same series ranked.

Miles per hour in the form has nothing to do with actual movement, but how many miles of cruising range power is collected during one hour of AC and DC charging. According to USwitch, the Porsche Taycan Plus is currently the fastest charging electric car, with a final score of 8.8/10, and the sports car can get a range of 650 miles in an hour with DC fast charging.

The Kia EV6 and Mercedes EQS 580 4MATIC followed in second and third place respectively. The EV6 also performed well, just a mile shy of the Taycan in regular AC charging mode. But unexpectedly, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 on the same platform did not perform as well, and even in the regular charging mode, it was not as good as the fourth-place Tesla Model Y.
