Apple, Meta and other manufacturers will launch new wearable devices in H2 2022

Smartwatch leader Apple and the largest VR device supplier Meta will simultaneously release new wearable devices in the second half of the year. Brands such as Samsung and Xiaomi will also release new products one after another. In the second half of the year, the wearable device market will be an important new battlefield other than smartphones.

According to the Taiwan Economic Daily, industry insiders believe that the overall global wearable device market continues to grow, and major brands will not give up easily. It is expected that Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, and even Meta will continue to launch new products. Its main purpose is not to sell hardware itself, but to enhance brand value and sell more peripheral services.

According to a report by research firm IDC, the total shipments of wearable devices in 2021 will total 530 million units, a year-on-year increase of 20%. The products shipped are mainly wristbands and watches. Among them, Apple is far ahead of other competitors in the field of smartwatches. In the fourth quarter of last year, the market share of the Apple Watch reached 35%, Xiaomi ranked second with 8.6%, and Samsung ranked third with 7.9%. Huawei’s market share is about 6.7%.

In terms of VR devices, according to IDC statistics, the global shipments of AR/VR headsets last year reached 11.23 million units, a year-on-year increase of 92.1%. Among them, VR equipment shipments exceeded 10 million units for the first time, reaching 10.95 million units. It is estimated that VR equipment shipments this year will reach 15.73 million units, a year-on-year increase of 43.6%. Among them, the Oculus market share of Meta, a leading VR equipment manufacturer, is as high as 80%, which is quite far from other competitors.

The report quoted industry insiders as saying that since there were not many new wearable devices in the first half of this year if new products are released in the second half of the year, it is expected to attract users to buy, but if the inflation problem continues to affect the overall economy, the sales of wearable devices may be discounted, and the follow-up market still needs to be Observe closely.
