Xbox Series more than doubles the daily sales of the Xbox One

Microsoft’s next-generation console, the Xbox Series, is more than double the sales of its predecessor, the Xbox One, in Japan. According to data released by Famitsu, as of July 3, the Xbox Series X|S sold about 260,504 units per day, while according to the same source, Microsoft’s previous-generation console, the Xbox One, sold only 114,831 units per day.

But the Xbox Series still has a long way to go to break another record in daily sales: Microsoft’s best-selling console in Japan is the Xbox 360, with cumulative sales of 1.6 million units. In the past month, the Xbox Series X|S has twice surpassed the Sony PS5 in daily sales due to sufficient supply.

With the latest generation of consoles, Microsoft is trying to cater to Japanese gamers. Japan, like the rest of the world, was the launch country for the Xbox Series X|S, a year behind the previous console launch. According to Xbox boss Spencer, Japanese gamers are more active than ever since Xbox Game Pass came to Japan in April 2020.

After Microsoft acquired Bethesda, Spencer also said that the acquisition of Tango Gameworks as part of the deal is an important step in the realization of Xbox’s ambitions in Japan.
