Windows 12 in 2024? What’s your opinion

According to the latest report, Microsoft is shifting to a new Windows plan and reverting to the more traditional three-year release cycle of Windows major versions, while adding new features delivered to current Windows versions.

Sources at Windows Central say Microsoft now intends to release major versions of Windows every three years, with the next version, tentatively called Windows 12, currently planned for 2024, three years after the 2021 release of Windows 11. This means that the originally planned 2023 Windows release (codenamed Sun Valley 3) has been canceled. As this new development program progresses, Microsoft also plans to add new features to users of the latest version of Windows.

Starting with Windows 11 22H2 (Sun Valley 2), Microsoft is kicking off a new ” Moments ” project designed to allow the company to roll out new features and experiences at key points throughout the year rather than major OS releases. It is reported that Microsoft intends to release new features to the Windows versions on the market every few months starting in 2023, up to four times a year.

Microsoft already tested the system by rolling out the taskbar weather button on Windows 11 earlier this year, and the same approach will be used for the new Moments, which the company will combine with the new features tested by Insiders and Roll them out to the latest released version of Windows for all users.

Many features of the now-defunct Windows Sun Valley 3 release plan will be released on top of Windows 11 22H2 (Sun Valley 2) as part of one of the Moments. Reports say that little is known about the 2024 version of Windows, and it is still in the early planning and engineering stages. Microsoft insiders have called it ” Next Valley ” in conversations, but it’s not sure if this is the project. Final code.

Overall, the changes to the Windows roadmap are significant and will allow Microsoft to release an explosion of new versions of Windows every few years, as it has done in the past while keeping the Windows versions on the market with regular and frequent new features.
