Check the comparison between Nothing OS vs OxygenOS

This is Nothing OS vs OnePlus Oxygen OS related article and I’m going to show you guys the main changes in these two skins which should you use and which one is better for you?

What is Nothing OS?

Nothing OS is Nothing’s user interface for Nothing Phone (1), which is based on Android 12. This is similar to what other companies like OnePlus, Xiaomi, and Realme offer on their phones like OxygenOS, MIUI, and Realme UI respectively. Nothing OS is the company’s custom skin based on Android.

What is OxygenOS?

OxygenOS is an Android-based OS developed by Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus exclusively for their smartphones. OxygenOS was developed for their overseas market. There used to also be another version of the OS designed specifically for the Chinese market called ColorOS (New) and HydrogenOS (Old).

Now you can check the comparison between these two OS.

UI Comparison

Spoiler alert OnePlus Oxygen OS may look bad in terms of UI, but it’s better in many places. So Nothing OS is not exactly a Pixel UI copy. They have done some small changes here and there to make the skin look unique. OnePlus is not even trying to copy Pixel UI. You guys can see we have a dual lock screen clock in Nothing OS, which is similar to Pixel skin, but the same basic clock in One Plus.

Home Screen Comparison

The home screen is customizable in both these OS. Like you can change the icon pack, and add some widgets, but OnePlus is offering some more options like Transition. There’s this application layout and finally, the OnePlus Shelf which is you can send areas to check and access widgets, some main apps, search music, and steps all in one place, like in iOS and MIUI. Yeah, you can disable it as I do.

Quick Settings Comparison

The Quick settings can be used by swiping down the left top. So basic UI and OnePlus similar to ColorOS. Nothing OS is using pixel-like quick settings. We have Material You colors which look great, but some changes they have done are these circular huge smart swipeable tiles which will show you network and connected devices. OnePlus is using the same OPPO launcher with the same application draw most of us hate.

System Apps Comparison

I’ll show you guys some system apps like Dialer, Messages, Gallery, Camera UI, and Recorder and there’s this Zen mode in OnePlus that lets you relax. So both of them got no to less Bluetooth, Google Apps and some exclusive apps which is fine. Now, OnePlus Oxygen OS lets you customize the Always on Display, which is awesome. Like we have so many different styles to pick from. We have this canvas Cod which works so well.

Font Style Comparison

Then you can also choose a different font, which is something you cannot do in Nothing phone 1. Yeah, forget about changing the dot metrics font or Always On Display clock style. You cannot even turn off or turn on Always On displays as of now. Nothing is using the same Pixel-style wallpaper picker, but they are showing the wrong design and font of the clock. The rest of the settings are the same in both.

Other Options

Some exclusive options are like OnePlus quot. This virtual Ram option. They have this gaming application that will show the FPS, let you change voice, and maintain the game performance. Nothing got a lift interface which is a LED controller, and some special dot metrics animation for say charging or pop-up menu. And yes, Nothing about the section shows the Same.

Animation Comparison

OnePlus OxygenOS changes with phone image and then Specs which looks great. The area where OnePlus still wins is RAM management, fast animation without any legs or hiccups. And nothing was not doing great in there yet. There are some legs. The animation is not clean and they need to work a lot there.

Update Comparison

Nothing is promising 3 years of OS and four years of monthly security patches. OnePlus is offering the same, but only for flagship devices. So there is Nothing that is going right. OnePlus should change its UI. It’s old and not even close to stock Pixels. Nothing should work on RAM management and animation. The UI is great. Like Pixel UI.
