Android TV OS is the basis of Android TV and Google TV. At least since there are two interfaces, the problems seem to increase. It starts with the Android version on which Android TV OS is based. Although Google started developing Android 12 early, the Android TV OS update has not yet been released. Google has since had to move it more often. Most recently in March, five months after the original Android 12 release.
Android 12 is late, and Android 13 is full of bugs
And if you take a look today at how the development of Android 13 for Android TV OS is going, things are obviously going wrong. Google has published a list of problems in Android 13 Beta 4, which lists a large number of issues, especially in the Android TV area. There are a total of eight errors that the Google developers are aware of and still have to eliminate.
For the regular Android platform, Google only lists five open bugs and wants to release Android 13 soon. There’s unlikely to be an upgrade for the base Android TV OS any time soon either.
Chromecast with Google TV is finally updated again
It has definitely gotten better over time, and yet the Chromecast with Google TV has plenty of room for improvement. A newer Android version could bring some improvements that are noticeable on the TV stick. But there is no new Android version. And now, after more than half a year, there has been an update for the stick with small improvements.
Nothing is progressing and the competition is rushing away
Android TV OS seems to us like a problem child of the Google developers, even if the platform basically works. However, development is not progressing behind the scenes and the Chromecast with Google TV was almost a failure compared to the powerful Amazon Fire TV Sticks.
